Videos not Playing

The videos do not play - they get stuck in the first frame. How to fix?

The most usual source of problems is that the audio output is not working properly (video playback is synchronized to the audio output). Most probably some other application is already using the audio device you intended to use. Quite often this is the system sound daemon, which can be disabled.
